Electricity Efficiency of the Swiss Economy – Evaluation and Scenarios of the EnAW

We statistically evaluated the impact of the activities of the Energy Agency of the Economy (EnAW) in the area of electricity efficiency and presented it in a transparent and comprehensible manner. Using a bottom-up model, we realistically estimated possible future developments, opportunities and objectives with regard to increasing electricity efficiency in the economy.

The study was based on empirical monitoring data from the EnAW. At the end of 2010, around 5,000 individual measures with an impact on electricity from around 620 companies were included. The companies considered covered an electrical energy consumption of around 10 TWh, i.e. around 28% of the electricity demand of the economy. The measures recorded in the EnAW monitoring programme were summarised in categories relating to the intended use of the electrical application (such as production processes, building technology, lighting and refrigeration), in sector groups and other influencing factors and analysed statistically using regression models. From this, we were able to determine the effect of the various influencing factors on the frequency and effect of the efficiency measures.
