Economic Analysis of Measures for the Energy Strategy 2050 – Efficiency Regulations for Electrical Appliances

With the Energy Strategy 2050, the Federal Council is pursuing the goal of significantly reducing electricity consumption in Switzerland by 2050 compared with a reference development. To this end, a package of measures has been drawn up which provides for new, adapted and stricter efficiency regulations for eleven categories of electrical appliances. Efficiency rules regulate the placing on the market of appliances and lay down minimum requirements for their energy efficiency. Equipment which does not comply with these requirements may not be placed on the market.

The aim of our study was to analyse the economic effects of the planned efficiency regulations, to present them transparently and to contribute to the optimisation of the revision project.

Building on this, the Federal Council introduced stricter regulations for energy-saving electrical appliances.

Reference projects

Low-temperature district heating networks. The basis for modernizing the heat sector.

Renewable energies and waste heat sources are to replace the coal and natural gas sources that have dominated Polish district heating networks up to now.

First and foremost, this requires a reduction of the system temperature. The study shows the technical, regulatory and organisational measures required to achieve this
and determines the overall potential for decarbonising district heating in Poland.
