Energy-Saving Contracting
Increasing energy efficiency is one of the central pillars of Swiss energy policy. But how can existing potentials be tapped, and can energy-savings contracting (ESC) contribute to this?
We have investigated these questions in the project "Contracting the Gap" of the SFOE research programme Energy – Economy – Society (EES) in cooperation with the University of Neuchâtel.
The project was divided into three modules:
- Module 1 – Survey of the current situation: initial results on obstacles, drivers and success factors of ESC in Switzerland, and a look abroad
- Module 2 – Analysis of the ESC demand side: expert interviews, online survey of building owners and operators on attributes and willingness to pay per market segment
- Module 3 – Analysis of the ESC supplier side: expert interviews, online survey of suppliers on market opportunities, customer segments, barriers, success factors, energy-saving contracting models, technologies and necessary framework conditions
- Synthesis: recommendations on measures, such as instruments, for sectors and authorities
The results of this fascinating project are presented in the final report and concisely summarised.
