CoolCity

The Energy Commissioner of the city of Zurich is increasingly confronted with enquiries from building owners concerning the possibilities of renewable heat and efficient cooling supply. Using the water of the lake as an energy source offers an exciting alternative for the supply of ambient heat.

In order to determine the current and potential thermal energy demand (heating and cooling) and the interest of house owners in a possible use of lake water, TEP Energy conducted this study for the area of the city of Zurich.

The following objectives are taken into account:

  • Insights into the general needs of building owners in the area of the city of Zurich in terms of heating and cooling and the associated challenges
  • Knowledge about the general interest in the supply of lake water as energy source and in district heating or cooling from lake water
  • Spatial indications and categorization of ownerships, connection potential and level of interest
  • Statements about the distribution of existing cold generation/delivery systems and their type and, as far as possible, development of possible potentials for reduction and development of the current cooling demand
  • First quantitative findings on the thermal demand and sales potential for (renewable) district heating and cooling in the area of the city of Zurich, taking into account the potential for internal waste heat utilisation and FreeCooling

Energy renovation rates in the building sector

Various federal and cantonal energy and climate policy measures are aimed at significantly increasing the energy renovation rate. Based on this comprehensive survey, the report shows how the energy renovation rate has developed in recent years and how high it currently is.

Net-zero greenhouse gas emissions in the building sector | TEP Energy

Together with partners, TEP Energy is developing methodological principles (F0) based on the WLCNN method, examining the achievability of net-zero targets (F1) using technical and economic scenarios and developing implementation strategies (F2, F3) with technical and political concepts. In addition, existing standards are analysed in order to harmonize regulations and ensure comparability (F4).

Solar strategy Wädenswil

TEP Energy is conducting a solar strategy and potential study to accelerate the expansion of solar energy in the city of Wädenswil.

Energy Policy Simulator

TEP Energy is supporting the San Francisco based think tank Energy Innovation in the expansion of its Energy Policy Simulator (EPS).

SURE - SUstainable and REsilient energy for Switzerland

Sweet - SURE analyses the impact of disruptive events on the Swiss energy system. TEP Energy is working on energy demand topics such as the development of demand for energy sources in Switzerland, the impact of shocks on the demand load and the potential use of large heat pumps.
